Terrain Painting, Weather and Waves in WolfViewer
12 September 2026 · Lone Wolf
Three things landed in WolfViewer together, and they are easiest to understand by watching them: WolfViewer Terrain Painting, Weather and Waves.
Terrain painting
Open Build → Paint and draw roads, tracks and clearings straight onto the land. The painting is stored on the grid, not in your viewer, so everyone standing in the region sees the same ground you do.
Weather
Rain and snow, at four strengths each, from a gentle drizzle up to a blizzard. Two rules make it feel right rather than decorative:
- It never falls indoors. The viewer works out what is above you and stops the weather at it, so a roof keeps you dry and stepping through a door stops the rain on you.
- It is lit like everything else. Rain at midnight is dark. Precipitation that glowed its own colour in the dark looked like falling light, not water.
A scripted object can turn it on for a parcel by putting wolfrain or wolfsnow in its description, so a build can have its own weather.
Waves
Open water gets rolling surf, and water closed in by land — lakes, rivers, harbours — gets a gentler sea, automatically. Region holders can paint that layout by hand in About Land → Waves when the automatic answer is not what they want.
All three are in WolfViewer, free for Windows, Mac and Linux.
