Dire Wolf: 100×100 Regions
10 September 2026 · Lone Wolf
A standard OpenSimulator region is 256 metres on a side. Wolf Territories runs regions up to 25,600 metres — a hundred of them square, in one seamless piece, with no crossings to fall through. We call it Dire Wolf.
See it running, along with the weather work: 100x100 Region, Dire Wolf successfully running and other new features including rain and snow.
Why size is hard
A region that big is not simply a bigger number in a config file. The viewer has to draw terrain it can see for kilometres without building all of it, the map has to know the region is not square-shaped like the others, and the server has to hand out only the land near you rather than the whole surface at once. Each of those needed work in both the server and the viewer.
The server side is our own OpenSimulator fork, OpenSimWolf, built on OpenSim-NGC Tranquillity 0.9.3. The viewer side shipped in WolfViewer and WolfStorm together, so both the desktop viewer and the browser one can walk a Dire Wolf region.
